The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S.
While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico.

You've heard this shocking "fact" before -- on TV and radio, in newspapers, on the Internet and from the highest politicians in the land: 90 percent of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the United States.

-- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it to reporters on a flight to Mexico City.

-- CBS newsman Bob Schieffer referred to it while interviewing President Obama.

-- California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said at a Senate hearing: "It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors … come from the United States."

-- William Hoover, assistant director for field operations at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, testified in the House of Representatives that "there is more than enough evidence to indicate that over 90 percent of the firearms that have either been recovered in, or interdicted in transport to Mexico, originated from various sources within the United States."

There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:

It's just not true.

In fact, it's not even close. By all accounts, it's probably around 17 percent.

Authorities said Robert Stewart, 45, went on a terrifying rampage in the Pinelake Health and Rehab center on Sunday morning, killing seven residents and a nurse and wounding three other people.

He was stopped by a single shot to the chest fired by Justin Garner, a decorated police officer responding to a 911 call. Stewart wounded Garner three times in the leg as they traded gunfire in a hallway, McKenzie said.

"Whether he realizes it now, he will hopefully realize someday how many lives he has saved," McKenzie said, adding: "A lot more lives would have been lost, I honestly feel, had he not done what he did. For certain."

A British police raid on safe deposit boxes has revealed an "Aladdin's cave of criminality" that spans murder, money laundering, pedophilia, people trafficking and drug running. The findings have led to 1,000 inquiries around the world.

More than 3,500 boxes were raided by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Directorate in June last year.

They seized $51.5 million of cash in various denominations, of which $1.5 million has still to be claimed, dozens of passports, cocaine, firearms, forged banking bonds, including one for $4.95 million, suitcases full of gold and cannabis.

The contents of some of the boxes are being investigated by the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, The Times has learned.

Seven hundred of the box holders are being referred to Customs for suspected tax evasion involving $22 million and officers have discovered a significant number of "ghosts" - people who have never paid any tax at all.

Elephant tusks worth $58,000 were also confiscated after a suspect's home was searched.

Police inquiries have led all over the world and officers expect the investigations to run for years to come. So far 11 people have been charged in connection with the raid, codenamed Operation Rize, and 40 have been arrested.

More than half of the boxes are thought to be connected to criminal activity.

With all the warnings about probable terrorism and violence at these summits, one thing that is never noted is that the people committing the violence are almost always leftists committing violence in the name of Peace. Since most of those losers are living off the government, why don't we cut off the aid. Maybe their air, too, since they are producing too much CO2 and that upsets the Left.

Terror attack rated 'highly likely'
Intel agencies warn of danger during G20 meetings

LONDON - Britain's MI5 and MI6 intelligence services have issued a joint warning that the threat of a terrorist attack "on or during the G20 summit in London" next week is now at the "top end of severe," the third of four high-risk levels, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

The only higher rating that intelligence services use is "critical," indicating an attack "is expected imminently."

The warning comes on the eve of the publication of the government's new counter-terrorism strategy. The document includes advice on how to protect buildings from attack.

Security sources say the possibility of an attack by terrorists would "most likely" involve using automatic weapons for a Mumbai style attack on London's major hotels and shops like Harrods.

Keep in touch with the most important breaking news stories about critical developments around the globe with Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, the premium, online intelligence news source edited and published by the founder of WND.

Terrorists used grenades and assault rifles in the Mumbai attack last November, which killed 173 people. Two deluxe hotels were the focus of the attack.

So, the Friends of Ayers at the White House are fighting to cover this all up? What a shock.

If the Feds are refusing to investigate further and are trying to keep the locals from investigating by keeping the case open, what recourse do the police and the families of the victims, much less the victims themselves, have? If the Feds refuse to prosecute and allow a jury to hear the facts, can the victims sue this terrorist and the people who have supported him for all these years? I think they should!

Ayers and his wife have killed people and made a profit from it. That is illegal and they should be stopped. Some one needs to sue them into the monetary poverty that matches their moral poverty.

The Obama Justice Department instructed San Francisco police officials not to comment after top law enforcement officers there signed a letter accusing Weathermen radical Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, of being directly behind the 1970 bombing of San Francisco's police station that killed one sergeant and wounded nine others.

At a press conference March 12 directed by activist Cliff Kincaid of America's Survival Inc, the leaders of the San Francisco Police Officers' Association made public a letter pointing a finger at Ayers and Dohrn that demands those responsible for the bombing be brought to justice.

"There are irrefutable and compelling reasons to believe that Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn are largely responsible for the bombing of Park Police Station," the officers stated in the letter.

The letter called for the U.S. to bring "those responsible for the murder of Sgt. Brian McDonnell and the injuries to other officers to the justice they have so long eluded."

I am glad that private security is being upgraded to police levels. With the horrible crime rates in our cities and the worries about terrorists we need a new line of defense. i know that the Liberal solution to crime is to fire the police and give the cash to the criminals so they don't have to work and have more time to plan a better life. Or plan better crimes.

Train these guys and send them to work. Have the police handle the major stuff. It makes sense to me. What is the downside?

Since the private security patrols arrived, the robberies have continued, "but it's slowing down, because it seems like more of the stores have to have their own guns and their own security."

In addition to the Fraternal Order of Police being against it, experts tell CBS 2 that asking private security guards to conduct police functions is dangerous, and potentially fatal, with most security guards paid much less and receive less training. Chicago's Police Supt. Jody Weis calls it all a work in progress.

"Let's be creative," Weis said. "If we can have police officers focusing on higher priority cases, it's worth talking about."

CBS 2 wanted to ask the Toronto-based firm which was the lowest bidder for contracts in the 9th and 10th wards about the background and training of its officers. Also in question was is how much experience the Canadian company has with the inner city problems which make the Roseland community a challenge for even the most streetwise Chicago Police professionals. The firm has not yet returned calls.

The Nazis have been trying to regain power since they had their butts kicked all those years ago. The failure of socialism to cure the woes of Eastern Europe after communism collapsed has only exasperated the issues that caused the rise of National Socialism in the first place. Something has to give soon or the West will collapse. I pray that we can survive that.

BERLIN (Reuters) - German police have launched a nationwide search of more than 200 homes and businesses of people suspected of belonging to the country's extreme right, the Federal Crime Office (BKA) said Wednesday.

"The primary aim of the concerted action by crime fighting authorities is to seize and confiscate prohibited items like music in order to move effectively and extensively against the spread of right wing extremism," the BKA said in a statement.

More than 60 years after World War Two and the Nazi Holocaust, right-wing radicalism is still a problem in Germany, particularly in the former communist eastern part of the country where unemployment is nearly double the rate in the west.

The BKA said last year that neo-Nazis appeared to have shifted their tactics and stepped up violent attacks. Government figures show anti-Semitic crimes rose at the end of last year.

The BKA said the search began earlier Wednesday and was being carried out in all 16 federal states. A BKA spokeswoman could not say for now if any arrests had been made.

I am glad to see that some people are taking this seriously. It scares me to think about how the killers are so prepared to slaughter innocents that they arrive at sick plans like this.

I would love to hear how this training is going. Hint hint. I know a couple of NYPD read this blog!

"Terrorists are thinking creatively about new tactics," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said last week at a City Council public safety hearing. "So must we."

The nation's largest police department launched a counterterrorism initiative this month to train a new team of officers with semiautomatic rifles loaded with armor-piercing bullets. The officers also are being trained in tactics for close quarters combat and rescuing hostages in hotels and other high-rise buildings.

After the three-day assault in Mumbai on luxury hotels, a Jewish center and other sites in November left 164 people dead, the NYPD dispatched investigators to India to see if there were any security lessons for New York. They were struck how the 10 shooters calmly caused so much mayhem by relying on cell-phone communication and Chinese knockoff AK-47s. The local police and security officers, they said, were clearly overwhelmed.

"Their weapons were not sufficiently powerful and they were not trained for that type of conflict," Kelly said. "It took more than 12 hours for properly armed Indian commandos to arrive."

I do not understand why people do not label the War in Mexico as a Civil War and not as random violence. Mexico needs to declare this a war and treat it as such this will allow them to round up Prisoners of War who can be processed and held indefinitely. It would be a way to get these criminals off the streets and into prisons.

I advise all my friends to avoid Mexico at all costs. It is not safe any more. Not that it has been that great.

We need to seal the border to keep this from overwhelming our country!

TABASCO, Mexico --

Gunmen killed a state police officer and 10 members of his family, including five children, during a violent weekend that left at least a dozen Mexicans dead in separate events.

The shooting late Saturday also killed a street vendor in front of the house of state police officer Carlos Reyes, said Tabasco deputy prosecutor Alex Alvarez. Among the five children killed was a 2-year-old boy.

Reyes was a member of a special unit of high-level officers who investigated organized crime and kidnappings, the Latin American Herald Tribune reported.

Police hadn't determined a motive for the attack but Reyes directed a car chase and raids on two homes on Wednesday that led to the death of three suspected gang members and the arrest of seven others, Alvarez said.

"It is confirmed that [the assailants] wanted to kill the state police officer but they killed his whole family," Alvarez said.

At least a dozen gunmen in three SUVs sprayed the house with bullets, leaving police to find 11 bodies scattered inside three houses, the Latin American Herald Tribune reported.

An official from the Tabasco Attorney General's Office told the newspaper the killers "had no mercy" and were taken by complete surprise.

Yet another way to beat the police and the spooks from listening in on criminal activities. Skype is very handy and is cheap to use, but now that the criminals have found it, they are ruining the fun for all of us. I hate crooks and spoilsports.

Intelligence agencies and police across Europe have complained that VoIP technologies are making their life more difficult.

German police have sought legal permission to plant spyware on the PCs of terror suspect. In a parallel move, leaked documents that emerged last year detailed plans by German firm Digitask to develop technology capable of intercepting intercept Skype VoIP communications and SSL transmissions, alongside costing and licensing proposals.

At the Counter Terror Expo in London last week, an industry source told El Reg that the US's National Security Agency is prepared to pay "billions" for technology that can reliably eavesdrop on Skype IM and voice traffic.

P2P VoIP technologies pose a particular technical challenge because it's not possible to simply tap communications at a telephone exchange. In addition, Skype use a proprietary encryption scheme, which may (or may not) further complicate matters.
