This guy is only going to serve 10 years for conspiracy to commit many murders and for providing aide to known and suspected terrorists? Interesting.

This guy should be held in isolation for a decade or two and pumped for information. His family should all be moved into an isolated community for families of terrorists and watched carefully.

Since death does not scare these fanatics, maybe castration will. That does sound like a good option. What does Islam say about this?

Rangzieb, of Barnston Avenue, Fallowfield, became the first person in Britain to be convicted of directing terrorism.

A jury at Manchester Crown Court decided the 33-year-old from Rochdale was a senior figure in al-Qaida and had plotted to build a terrorist cell here. Rangzieb had direct links with al-Qaida's third-in-command.

Taxi driver Habib Ahmed, from Cheetham Hill, was also convicted of being a member of al-Qaida and acting as Rangzieb's willing stooge. The paid had a hit-list of government ministers and aides to Tony Blair.

It included the then Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon, former MI5 chief Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller, author Salman Rushdie and prominent Jewish businessman and Labour Party donor Sir Trevor Chinn. The group planned to use their British base as a springboard for attacks in the USA.

Habib prepared for terror training in Pakistan by running in Heaton Park with a heavy ruck sack on his back.

They were trapped by a massive surveillance operation involving hours of phone tapping, computer monitoring, and 24-hour surveillance. It is understood that police did not wait for the pair to get further in their planning because as 'committed terrorists intent on attacking British targets' they were considered far too dangerous.

A security source last night said: "This was a very significant trial. Greater Manchester is regarded as very important in the fight against terrorism."

Det Chief Supt Tony Porter, head of GMP's Counter Terrorism Unit, said of Rangzieb: "This man was directly associated with the core of al-Qaida. He had direct contact with bombmakers and operational players. This result means people are safer."
